OMG- Faith and Social Media
From May 27-June 10 we will wonder together about what our facebook pages and twitter feeds have to do with our faith. How do we offer more than “thoughts and prayers” sort through the bad online theology to discover what God is up to in our world?
We asked and you answered! Our summer series is based entirely from suggestions be the congregation on what YOU want to hear about.
June 17- “Eco God”- What does God have to say about caring for the Earth?
June 24- “Public Enemies?”- When Jesus says “love your enemies” who exactly is he talking about? And what are we supposed to do with the people we hate or people who abuse us?
July 1- “American Jesus”- What would Jesus say about modern America and what does patriotism have to do with our faith?
July 8- “On Limits” –Following Jesus means giving ourselves away for the sake of others, but at what point should we learn how to say “no”?
July 15- “My Friends Aren’t Christian”- How do we understanding the secular culture we’re living in and still maintain a Christian witness?
July 22- “Serving my neighbor”- We hear a lot in church about serving our neighbors, but I’m not sure how exactly to go about it in my everyday life?
July 29- “God vs Science”- This knockout fight gets a lot of hype, but do we really have to pick a side?
August 12- “Keeping Busy” The world tells us having a busy life is best. But what does my job, and my busy life have to do with my faith?
August 12- “Take a Load Off”- Rest is more than an optional break, it’s a command from God. But why does God care so much that we rest when we’re supposed to?
It’s the END of the World as We Know It
Our last sermon series of the summer will focus on popular and Biblical conceptions of the end times and the forces that come with it.
August 19- “Angels and Demons” The Bible makes a lot of references to these otherworldly beings, but how do we understand them today?
August 26- “Heaven and Hell” What does the Bible really have to say about what comes after this life? I bet the answer will surprise you!
Sept 2- “Apocalypse Now” There are a lot of Christian claims about the ‘end times,’ but what exactly should we believe and how’s it all going to end?
